Abstract
PACHECO GUTIERREZ, Carlos Alejandro. Estimation of the storage and retention of carbon dioxide by the public urban forest of the area of Achumani in La Paz city through a mobile application. Fides Et Ratio [online]. 2020, vol.19, n.19, pp.153-174. ISSN 2071-081X.
Abstract In recent times, a very current issue regards the emission and sequestration of greenhouse gases, which are a cause for climate change. Forest and urban forests are an important tool for retention and sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2) - one of the main greenhouse gases - in the atmosphere. Therefore, it becomes necessary to create relevant studies that are able to measure the impact that their development or deterioration could have in the local carbon footprint of local communities. The goal of estimating the total mass of carbon currently stored as biomass in the urban forest of the Achumani area in La Paz city, and the quantity that it sequestered in the year before. Applying a descriptive study with a quantitative approach and an ex post facto transversal design, using a sample of 14 one-ha quadrants. For each quadrant, the biomass of every specimen was estimated using the app Kuka-Suite, along with the total biomass for the quadrant. This resulted in an estimated 6085 tons of stored CO2 and an estimated 55 tons of growth in the year, before the study.
