PACHECO HALAS, Milushka Noemí  and  ALFARO URQUIOLA, Alhena L.. Influence of perceived social support, sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors on the depression of elderly adults of the urban area of the city of La Paz. Fides Et Ratio [online]. 2018, vol.15, n.15, pp.15-28. ISSN 2071-081X.

It has been proven that elderly population is constantly increasing, and that in the Plurinational State of Bolivia, there is not much information, studies and research about older adults. For this reason, this research topic was chosen, whose main objective is to determine the relationship between perceived social support and depression in older adults in the urban area of the city of La Paz. The research evaluates socio-economic factors, socio demographic, perceived social support (Zimet scale) and depression (Yesavage geriatric scale). For this study, an evaluation battery was prepared by compiling the aforementioned scales, and the statistical tool SPSS was used to analyze the data, resulting in a descriptive correlation study of a quantitative nature. Thus, it was found that there is a significant relationship of - ,438 between perceived social support and levels of depression in older adults in the urban area of the city of La Paz. Likewise, there are certain socio-economic and socio-demographic factors (housing situation, monthly income received, source of income, frequency of visits, marital status, etc.) that have a significant relationship with the perceived social support and the depression of the older adults, which influence levels of both depression and perceived social support, in some cases increasing levels or decreasing.

Keywords : Perceived social support; socioeconomic factors; sociodemographic factors; depression; older adults.
