Abstract

ZEBALLOS AMPUERO, Sandra Marcela  and  NYQUIST, Timothy Dean. Difficulties in reading comprehension and its relationship to the cognitive Theory of Double Route Processing. Fides Et Ratio [online]. 2017, vol.14, n.14, pp.15-33. ISSN 2071-081X.

The objective of the study was to apply an instrument that would reveal the cognitive processing modes employed by the students. The sample consisted of 100 students from four semester groups of the UAGRM. The Learning Style Index survey was used. This identifies the preference of way to process the reading, with the possibility to choose between preference of visual or verbal mode. The results indicated that the students employed only one cognitive mode of processing input data, the Visual mode. This mode works as long as the reading material can be easily visualized. In conclusion to successfully decode abstract reading material both cognitive modes must be employed.
