Abstract

RODRIGUEZ GUITIAN, Alma María. The homeschooling debate: ¿an hypothesis of parental responsability?. Rev. Bol. Der. [online]. 2015, n.19, pp.118-141. ISSN 2070-8157.

This paper examines whether homeschooling is a legal alternative to compulsory schooling. The optimal balance between the parents'right to educate their children and the state's role in education has to be found always in the best interest of the child and cannot be done in a schematic or rigid way.The heterogeneity of motivations and the impact home education might have on the child must be necessarily taken into account by the courts.

Keywords : Home education; compulsory schooling; the parents'right to educate their children; the state's role in education; the best interest of the child.
