SORIA, Sofía; SCIOLLA, Paula y BELTRAMONE, Ana Clara. Cultural diversity without equality?: Dilemmas in the building of interculturality and democracy at school. Rev. de Inv. Educ. [online]. 2015, vol.8, n.1, pp.57-77. ISSN 1997-4043.
Looking at the social relationships that take place at schools makes evident hosts of tensions that express how conceptions are materialized in the practices of individual subjects. Thus, reflecting on how the interculturality category is accepted or questioned in school contexts implies focusing on conceptions that imply not only the definition of certain subjects and groups as diverse, but also methods of recognizing this diversity. Within this framework, this paper aims to expose reflections and interpretations derived from an intervention experience on the difficulties of interculturality in a primary school from Córdoba city, Argentina, carried out in 2012. On the one side, some considerations are exposed as regards tensions and difficulties related to the recognition of cultural diversity in school contexts, an issue that refers to the existence of dilemmas that pose a false contradiction between equality and diversity, as well as between peaceful coexistence and connict. With the exposure of these dilemmas, the aim is to show how the problems of recognition of cultural diversity at school are directly related to the problems of its role in the building of democracy.
