Abstract

SAUVE, Lucie. Knowledge to build and competitions to develop in the dynamics of the socio-ecological discussions. Rev. de Inv. Educ. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.3, pp.65-87. ISSN 1997-4043.

ABSTRACT In the context of the current "governance" driven by politico-economic ventures, where democracy often becomes a mere instrument for social acceptance, the civil society has to assume the excessively demanding task of exercising a critical guard on public affairs, regarding energy, natural resources or food security for example, and to engage in the vast collective workshop of ecosocial innovation so as to enhance our ways of "living HERE together". Amongst actors of this social vigil, educators are called out in the foreground to accompany and stimulate the development of a critical, creative, committed, and competent ecocitizenship, ready and willing to participate in public debates, search for solutions and contribute to the emergence of an ecosociety. For that purpose, among the essential knowledge from now on necessary, so in schools as in life long learning contexts, it is important to promote the development of areas of competence allowing a critical, ethical, and political approach of socioecological issues. Each of these interconnected areas, which can be named "critical competence", "ethical competence", and "political competence" integrate a set of complementary knowledge of diverse types relating to cognition, affection, values, skills, etc. The development of such competencies call for an appropriate and innovative pedagogy - an ecopedagogy - which raises stimulating challenges for the actors of an education anchored in our contemporary world and contributing to its transformation.

Keywords : Ecocitizenship; ecopedagogy; critical competence; ethical competence and political competence.
