Abstract
CASTRO TORRES, Mario. Blood and sand: youth violence, education and the war plays of La Paz in the 19th century. Rev. de Inv. Educ. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.2, pp.71-84. ISSN 1997-4043.
In the 19th century took place in La Paz a peculiar stone-throwing fight between two youth gangs in the north of the city. It became a broadly practiced tradition, tolerated and limited to some places and people that helped to channel collective violence. Popularity of bullfighting, massive schooling in La Paz and the growth of the city brought to the disappearance of this violent recreational practice that has left unexpected traces in the contemporary carnival.
Keywords : Youth violence; collective unconscious; education in La Paz; social action.
