Abstract

SARZURI-LIMA, Marcelo. The construction of the "Spanish dream": Migration from the point of view of social imaginaries. Rev. de Inv. Educ. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.1, pp.127-140. ISSN 1997-4043.

This essay addresses the construction of a migration imaginary and explains how this element becomes an important motivation for people that decide to leave their countries of origin. Analysing the experience of Bolivian migrants in Spain (phenomenology), and following a structural analysis of contents, it will be explained how a migration imaginary and the "Spanish dream" are constructed. At the same time, it also shows that behind the migration phenomenon, there is no linear and instrumental calculation of the action of migration but a strategy of the individual migrant and his or her family in order to keep a protection situation. This strategy is full of phantasy and wishes that the stories of successful migrants introduce in the expulsion places and within the migration imaginaries.

Keywords : Imaginary immigration; plague of fantasies; "Spanish dream".
