HERNANDEZ PASTOR, Pilar. Infectious diseases, migration and global health: Case study: Bolivia. Rev. de Inv. Educ. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.1, pp.111-126. ISSN 1997-4043.
Migration and human displacements have taken place throughout history. In former times they were mainly motivated by trade and war and in modern times by extreme poverty and climate change, among other reasons. In all population movements, humans have carried pathogens with them, taking them into new places and creating new disease foci. In Bolivia, both internal and external migrations continue to happen, with several consequences. In order to deal with these new threats that put all the population at risk, it is needed that we stop thinking of "international health", we start thinking on the concept of "global health" and that we adopt both local and large scale measures.
