SUMMARY This paper has two parts, the first is a review of the economic history of Latin American economic powers showing elements that help us think about development and the related educative projects as functional to these development projects. It is not the objective to outline a bleak picture of development and the use of technology, but it is to take into account the potential effects of development models and to consider whether to undertake industrial projects is a priority. We believe that industrialization is necessary but must be accompanied by other processes and therefore the second part of this essay raises elements to take assess the potential of the communitarian economy. In countries on the periphery of the capitalist world it is necessary to generate new economic processes which focus on revitalizing or strengthening an economy based on indigenous community and its potential.
