ABSTRACT This work is a scientific result of the investigation project, "The educational orientation in the formation of students of the Pre-university Vocational Institutes of Pedagogic Sciences (IPVCP)", that is developed in province of Santiago, Cuba. The article explains the theoretical conceptualizations that are assumed and constructed based on the formative work in educational institutions specialized in the formation of high school students with a pedagogic professional orientation, known as Pre-university Vocational Institutes of Pedagogic Sciences, part of the Pre-university Education of Cuba. The dimensions that configure the formative process in the IPVCP are being emphasised: educational-methodological and investigative, synthesized in the educational orientation that has the pedagogic professional orientation as vertebral axis. Important theoretical foundations allow us to make recommendations for the improvement of the formative process in these centres, increasing the quality of high school students who are getting ready for their entry into a pedagogical career.
