In the last twenty years, Bolivia has introduced a set of public policy initiatives to prevent, punish and eradicate gender-based violence. Drawing on the results of her research on violence against women in the Max Paredes Macrodistrict of the Municipality of La Paz, the author of this article analyses the public policy initiatives regarding this issue, the causes that lead to violence, and the need for a national register to determine the prevalence of violence in real time and family behaviour
