Abstract

HINGJOSA, Alfonso  and  GUAYGUA, Germán. The transnationalization of the fiesta in the highlands of La Paz. Tinkazos [online]. 2015, vol.18, n.37, pp.153-172. ISSN 1990-7451.

The town festivals of Guaqui and Sica Sica explicitly display the economic and social cycles that societies or communities in the highlands of La Paz are living through as they forge links between the local and the global, whether in transnational employment niches or in trade dynamics at the same level. This article specifically analyses the popular Aymara sectors who have become a new economic élite in the country

Keywords : International migration; transnational fiestas; popular economy; Aymara migration; morenadas; town festivals.
