Abstract

ANZALDO GARCIA, Alejandra  and  GUTIERREZ GALEAN, Magaly. Progress and challenges in the Guaraní Charagua Iyambae Autonomous Governments. Tinkazos [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.36, pp.81-91. ISSN 1990-7451.

The Guaraní Charagua Iyambae Autonomous Government is being taken forward by the indigenous captaincies of Charagua Norte, Parapitiguasu, Alto Isoso and Bajo Isoso in Cordillera province in the department of Santa Cruz. These captaincies formed an alliance to undertake a joint transition to a new form of local government based on their own worldview as the Guaraní people and nation. The initiative, with its achievements and difficulties, has become a historic point of reference in the process of social and political change under way in Santa Cruz and the country as a whole, as part of the construction of the new Plurinational State.

Keywords : indigenous and rural community autonomy; Plurinational State; social change; autonomy statutes; Guaraní autonomous assembly; Guaraní Charagua Iyambae Autonomy Statutes.
