Abstract

WANDERLEY, Fernanda. The construction of economic citizenship: the challenge of the new development model. Tinkazos [online]. 2010, vol.13, suppl.1, pp.203-219. ISSN 1990-7451.

Bolivia’s problems of insufficient economic growth, low levels of productivity and competitiveness, social inequality and poverty are explained not by the model of state management - whether liberal or statist - but by economic, social and political thinking that places its faith in the exploitation of natural resources as the main route to development. Based on the analysis of the foundations of economic growth in Bolivia over the last fifty years, the author of this article identifies the challenges involved in Bolivia’s socio-economic reality.

Keywords : Development models; economic growth; economic development; economic policy; industrial policy; natural resources; diversification; competitiveness.
