The difficulties faced by marginal districts of the city of La Paz in gaining access to a water supply offer a wealth of information about the metropolization process. This article presents the results of a survey which shows that analysis cannot be based on a single scale of poverty. The ideas involved in constituting the urban space turn out to be decisive for understanding the territorial redistribution of different social groups.
