GUEVARA, Exequiel et al. VERBAL FLUENCY AS A CLINICAL MARKER IN PARKINSON'S DISEASE: A THEORETICAL REVIEW. Rev Cient Cienc Méd [online]. 2024, vol.27, n.2, pp.45-55. Epub 30-Dic-2024. ISSN 1817-7433.
Verbal fluency allows access to and evocation of sets of linguistic information, which would be useful for assessing executive and linguistic processes in people with Parkinson's disease. A secondary research design of narrative review type was used, using PubMed as the primary database. In addition, a classical theoretical study was carried out using different search engines. The objective was to characterize performance in verbal fluency tasks in people with Parkinson's disease by means of a theoretical review. As results, verbal fluency tasks in this population could be sensitive tools for cognitive performance, contribute to the monitoring and control of the disease and could even be implemented as an indicator of achievement. It could also potentially prevent the detection of mild cognitive impairment. In conclusion, the findings of this study highlight the importance of verbal fluency assessment as a clinical tool for the early detection of cognitive impairment. Detailed analysis of verbal production allows the identification of specific patterns of impairment that can guide both the planning of neuropsychological rehabi- litation interventions and the long-term monitoring of the progression of neurological disorders. Therefore, the implementation of verbal fluency testing in clinical assessment settings contributes significantly to the prevention and timely management of various neuropsychological conditions.
