Introduction:

At present, one of the situations that represents one of the biggest problems in the health field is the multidrug resistance of pathogenic microorganisms.

Objective:

To carry out a review that can generate a compilation of alternative therapies to antimicrobial drugs.

Methods:

A literature search was performed in Google Academic, PubMed, and Scielo. Making use the following terms: Resistance, antibiotic, alternatives, multidrug resistance, phage therapy, microbiota, prebiotics, probiotics, and phage. Results: An analysis of the information collected was made and it was possible to identify alternative therapies to antibiotics such as phage therapy, microbiota, and their relationship with prebiotics and probiotics.

Conclusions:

There are alternative therapies to antibiotics and multiple proposals were identified; however, all of them require further evidence of their use and application.
