LOPEZ VAN DEN BERGHE, Juanita y ISAZA CAICEDO, Valentina. CRP/ALBUMIN INDEX AS A BIOMARKER AND ITS APPLICATION AS A PROGNOSTIC MARKER IN SEVERE INFLAMMATORY PATHOLOGIES. Rev Cient Cienc Méd [online]. 2023, vol.26, n.2, pp.72-77. Epub 31-Dic-2023. ISSN 1817-7433.
The CRP/albumin index is a recent study indicator, made up of two biomarkers that reflect a systemic inflammatory state. For this reason, this review analyzes the relationship between the CRP/albumin index and different inflammatory pathologies, observing an increase in the risk of negative outcomes for the patient, and even a greater risk of mortality. Among the pathologies under study, COVID 19 infection and cancer in both initial and terminal stages stand out, identifying greater mortality, which motivates their study and application. Although its usefulness has been demonstrated in specific diseases, a standard value has not yet been established or it can be extrapolated to any pathology. This statement encourages us to continue researching and studying the clinical applications of this biomarker that leads to establishing optimal cut-off points and thus reducing mortality.
