Objective:
identify the stigmatizing attitudes of Occupational Therapy students.
Material and methods:
Descriptive study, with a cross-sectional design, the sample was made up of 118 Occupational Therapy students from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM), which was obtained from a non-probabilistic sampling at the author's discretion, to measure stigmatizing attitudes. The questionnaire of stigmatizing attitudes towards people with schizophrenia AQ 27 was used, whose reliability was 0.853 according to Cronbach's Alpha, the data were processed in the Spss V24 program.
Results:
Among the factors found were: the help factor presenting a high level, followed by the intermediate level of the pity factor and a low level the help factor. Likewise, the main negative factor highlighted in the study was the dangerousness and fear factor at a low level and the avoidance factor presented a medium level. On the other hand, among the significant associated factors, the responsibility factor (p=0.028), help factor (p=0.038) and the coercion factor (p=0.013) have a relationship between the stigmatizing attitude and the academic year.
Conclusion:
It is necessary to manage social awareness programs and fight against stigma towards patients suffering from schizophrenia in the future professional medical technologist in occupational therapy and in the general population.
