Abstract

ALVAREZ RODRIGUEZ, Lizenia Alejandra  and  TORRICO LANDAETA, Jorge Mauricio. C-REACTIVE PROTEIN VERSUS NEGATIVE BLOOD CULTURES IN NEONATAL SEPSIS, IN NEONATOLOGY OF THE WORKING HOSPITAL Nº 2 COCHABAMBA. Rev Cient Cienc Méd [online]. 2020, vol.23, n.2, pp.161-165. ISSN 1817-7433.

Vertical neonatal sepsis and its diagnosis continue to be a challenge in newborns, risk factors and the clinic play an important role for its better interpretation, however, the clinical picture continues to be nonspecific together with the limited laboratory tests, among which is the C-reactive protein, which is still used in our environment. Objective: To determine the usefulness of C-reactive protein against negative blood cultures in symptomatic vertical neonatal sepsis associated with risk factors, in the neonatology service of Hospital Obrero Número 2; from January 2018 to January 2019. Methodology: a descriptive, observational, longitudinal and analytical study; the sample was given by 153 neonates who met the inclusion criteria. Perinatal, clinical, laboratory data and risk factors were collected, as well as the use of statistical tables. Results: Blood culture continues to be the Gold standard, however CRP is useful for early conduct. The male gender with a high percentage (61%) of presenting sepsis, PROM 41%, chorioamnionitis 39% and prematurity 39% as predisposing risk factors Conclusion: this research indicates the importance of knowing the risk factors, suggestive symptoms and the use Laboratories such as PCR, which together help us to conclude the diagnosis of sepsis early, in the presence of negative blood cultures and allow us to carry out a better follow-up.
