Abstract
NINA GARCIA, Nelson Miguel. STATINS IN THE PREVENTION OF VENOUS THROMBOEMBOLISM. Rev Cient Cienc Méd [online]. 2018, vol.21, n.2, pp.29-36. ISSN 2077-3323.
Venous thromboembolism is considered one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. Primary and secondary prevention strategies are primarily focused on risk populations and include pharmacological and physical measures. In recent years, statins have gained interest in the prevention of venous thromboembolism. The proposed mechanisms involve anti-inflammatory effects, effects on the coagulation cascade, stimulation of fibrinolysis, antiplatelet mechanisms and lipid lowering. Primary and secondary prevention studies of venous thromboembolism assigned significant benefits in favor of statins, these findings have implications for clinical practice.
