One of the great advances in cardiovascular surgery is the treatment of heart diseases, which is aimed to solve the deficit of coronary blood flow. It has been made an evaluation of cardiovascular complications in surgery through a descriptive, prospective and cross-sectional study, the objective was to determine the frequency of complications in cardiovascular surgery and residence time to hospital discharge in the Hospital Caja Petrolera de Salud Santa Cruz in the 2014 management in patients older than 17 years, they which were underwent surgery cardiovascular surgery, with a representative sample of 22 patients, medical records were reviewed and tabulation of data was performed using Excel® program for Windows®. Analyzing the results found that most post-surgical complication was a trial fibrillation, 50% of patients were less than 4 days hospitalized in intensive therapy unit, also the highest number of patients were female, the most affected age group was between 61-70 years, the type of surgery was performed more myocardial revascularization followed by valve replacement. With the study we can conclude that the non-presence of complications helps a shorter in the hospital stay until discharge.
