ROMERO-VALENZUELA, Alvaro Carlos and ALVAREZ FUENTES, Fernando. Study of seminal parameters in patients attending at CIES's Clinic-La Paz-Bolivia. Rev Cient Cienc Méd [online]. 2014, vol.17, n.2, pp.28-31. ISSN 1817-7433.
Infertility is a problem that affects both men and women and should be evaluated for a comprehensive diagnosis. The semen analysis is the initial and most important in the evaluation of infertility and helps to define the severity of the male factor infertility step. The objective of this study is determining the frequency of the major abnormalities, based on semen analysis, of male patients that was attended at CIES La Paz Clinic for infertility problems according to the WHO criteria 2010. The studied population was 290 male patients who attended the CIES - La Paz Clinic between 2013 and 2014 for evaluation of infertility. The patients were characterized as a highly heterogeneous age group [19 to 67 years]. The most frequent abnormalities were asthenozoospermia[20.3%] and teratozoospermia [18.5%], however, we found that 6.8% of patients were normozospermico. A relationship between alterations of motility and morphological abnormalities found these commonly associated in the same patient was demonstrated. No significant differences in semen parameters between the age categories established were detected.
