Abstract

Nosocomial infections are factors that increase morbidity and mortality especially in the immunosuppressed patient and burned children.This study is to identify Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the burn ward at the Children's "Viedma Hospital". Moreover, the study is descriptive, transversal and the universe were children's burn ward and sample materials, equipment that are in frequent contact with burned children:check robes, bathroom faucet, hose physiologic solution, grippers, bed sheets, door handle, chair, walls, water hydrotherapy, hydrotherapy tub, sterile blankets, shelves, bath tub, balance, respirator mask, uniform health person, nurses hands' and the environment. A swab test was carried out on blood agar seeded agar and Mckoney to identify Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomona Aeruginosa. Coagulase method was added in colonies of Staphylococcus aureus; subsequent antimicrobial profile was performed. The results showed the identification of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (except this), in blankets, sheets, sterile blankets and health personnel's hands.The antibiogram showed that are resistant to Methicillin, and the colony that was identified in sterile blankets is also resistant to Vancomycin. It is concluded that Staphylococcus aureus colonizes several elements in the burn ward. On the other hand we must take account of their resistance profile in treatment of infections due to this cause in the burn ward at Viedma Hospital.
