Abstract

LOBATON PATINO, Ramiro. THE INTERCULTURAL DIMENSION OF CITIZENSHIP. FUNDAMENTS AND SCOPE. Punto Cero [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.46, pp.9-23.  Epub June 01, 2023. ISSN 1815-0276.  https://doi.org/10.35319/puntocero.202346196.

This article aims to examine the foundations of the intercultural dimension of citizenship. Therefore, it starts from the use of the critical hermeneutic method, which allows the articulation of three key factors: criticism, assumptions, and the proposal. On one hand, the bounds of the modern category of citizenship in a context of cultural diversity were shown, and on the other hand, the intercultural dimension of citizenship is sustained as a political category, supported by the internal relationship between mutual recognition and the feeling of belonging to the political community. The main finding is that the intercultural dimension of citizenship manages cultural diversity in democratic societies through the principles of equality, difference, and positive interaction.

Keywords : Citizenship; cultural diversity; intercultural dimension of citizenship; mutual recognition.
