Abstract

BORRELLI, Marcelo. Under siege: The press Argentina during the government of Isabel Peron (1974- 1976). Punto Cero [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.31, pp.75-86. ISSN 1815-0276.

This article describes the situation of the argentinian press during the Peronist government of Maria Estela "Isabel" Martinez de Perón (1974-1976), during which the repressive mechanisms of the state will be deepened to stifle poiiticai opposition sectors, which included a deliberate tendency to limit press freedom through sanctions, regulations or closures. In turn, the growth of poiiticai violence by armed poiiticai organizations of the Ieft and right wing armed groups consolidated an extremeiy difficuit reality forjournalists. Given the authoritarian practice of government censorship and advanced, the media were positioned very critically against the national government, highlighting its contradictions, highlighting the inability of the president to dominate the poiiticai situation and amplifying the negative data that had emerged from national poiiticai and economic reality. Finally, the press Argentina will expose his animosity towards the government to approve in early 1976 military coup as a viable soiution to the national crisis.
