Abstract

DELGADILLO VELASCO, Rocío. Audiovisual montage theories. Punto Cero [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.22, pp.69-77. ISSN 1815-0276.

This article is a summary of the homonym thesis defended in 2010. Consists of an analysis and comparison of different theoretical and technological approaches in the area of audiovisual montage (or visual editing) which includes narrative, conceptual, esthetic, rhetoric, and semiotic proposals from different authors. Audiovisual montage has been developing progressively since the creation of the cinematograph. The theoretical approaches about editing are subject to new technological discoveries as well as to the coming up of esthetic trends and/or historical developments. "The audiovisual" is a product and a concept of modernity. The article proposes the montage as the creative stage in which the filmmaker consolidates the audiovisual message of its work. So montage can be considered as a hegemonic stage in the process of audiovisual creation.

Keywords : Audiovisual montage and editing; film theory.
