The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is a very important parameter in the assessment of prostate problems, high values are associated with benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostatitis and prostate cancer. The purpose of this study is to see if there is a specific relationship between the levels of Total PSA and the diagnosis of benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer.Using a fluorimetric method (PROSTATUS free PSA / total Delfi), this study included 422 samples which were analyzed for prostate specific antigen (PSA). We found that of the 316 (100%) patients diagnosed with benign prostatic hypertrophy, 65 (20%) samples showed elevated levels of PSA. Among the 84 (100%) patients that were diagnosed with prostate cancer only 29 (34.4%) have elevated PSA levels.

Keywords : PSA; benign prostatic hypertrophy; prostate cancer; fluorimetric.
