    Resumen

ZARRIA TORRES, Karina et al. Formulation and evaluation of the stability of a series of vehicles for the development of a biopesticide based on Acantholippia deserticola essential oil. BIOFARBO [online]. 2010, vol.18, n.2, pp. 20-30. ISSN 1813-5363.

Pesticides derived from plants are gaining a new use as an alternative to the conventional pesticides used today which are harmful to the environment and human health, an example of such plants is Acantholippia deserticola a bush that grows in Andean zone of northern Chile, popularly known as "rika-rika", they essential oil has mostly a and b thujone, monoterpenes which has proven its activity as natural pesticides. The purpose of this study was to conduct a series of formulations as potential vehicles for Acantholippia deserticola essential oil, the selection criteria for the final design was by means of centrifugal stability and preliminary stability. Due to its properties a microemulsion was chosen as the final vehicle for Acantholippia deserticola essential oil. We performed an O/W microemulsion by means of a pseudoternary phase diagram. Quality control tests such as optical transparency, centrifugation, pH, heat stress and accelerated stability were conducted to determine the stability of the vehicle, and also characterized with regard to its electroconductive behavior. These tests demonstrated the effectiveness of pesticide microemulsion as a possible vehicle for the essential oil. Using thin layer chromatography it was found that for 120 days there was no degradation of the essential oil encapsulated in microemulsion formulated, and by GC-FID, as the presence of a and β thujone in this period of time.

Palabras llave : Acantholippia deserticola; biopesticide; microemulsion; thujones.
