BRAVO CAMACHO, Jorge Antonio et al. Antimicrobial susceptibility among strains of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from two health centers in La Paz and El Alto. BIOFARBO [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.2, pp. 08-14. ISSN 1813-5363.

Forty strains of Neiseria gonorrhoeae were studied for frequency and susceptibility test for β-lactamase antibiotics, tetracycline, cephalosporins and quinolones, also identification of β-lactamase producing strains (PPNG). The strains were isolated form patients with urethritis and / or gonococcic cervicitis that attended to surveillance of sexually transmitted infections (S.T.D) in the health centers of La Paz and El Alto cities. The study was run in the National Reference Laboratory for Clinical Microbiology at the National Institute for Health Laboratories.  The method used was disk diffusion test and Notrocefin disk, for β- lactamase test. The frequency for the resistance is: Penicillin 18 (45%), Tetracycline 20 (50%), penicilinase producing strains (PPNG) 15 (37,5%). The strains resistant to Tetracycline plasmid mediated (TRNG) 10 (25%).  The 100% of the studied strains are susceptible to Ceftriaxone, Ciprofloxacin and Spectinomicin. The results show that N. gonorrhoeae is still susceptible to Ceftriaxone, Ciprofloxacin and Spectinomicin.
