Abstract
FERNANDEZ FLORES, Nadia Danitza and CALDERON BURGOA, Maria Renne. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF PSYCHOPATY: BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW. Rev. Méd. La Paz [online]. 2024, vol.30, n.3, pp.81-95. Epub Dec 30, 2024. ISSN 1726-8958.
For several years, psychopathy has received various definitions, but they all have in common that it is an alteration of affective functions and a blind impulse towards violence. The DSM-5 (2013) included psychopathy within antisocial personality disorder (ASD); however, according to the different reviews carried out, it was shown that psychopathy is a different entity from APD. Although it meets its diagnostic criteria (90%), psychopathy is characterized by an innate central affective deficit, of biological origin, due to a genetic configuration, unlike APD, which only presents a small part (25%) of the criteria of psychopathy. International research indicates a higher prevalence of psychopathy in men (7.9%) who also hold important positions in organizations and companies. The Latin American country with the most consultations for psychopathy is Mexico (8,018) and in Bolivia there is a higher prevalence in the core axis. Pathological lying, impulsivity and violence are characteristic of them; they use seduction as a weapon to manipulate and satisfy their needs based on the search for sensations without creating attachment or guilt for the acts committed. For its diagnosis, a clinical interview, determination of neurotransmitters and imaging studies are necessary; treatment should be managed by a forensic psychiatrist, behavioral and pharmacological therapy. Our country lacks specialists to treat this type of patient, as well as studies on the subject by health professionals.
