One of the most feared complications of diabetes mellitus is diabetic kidney disease. It was well defined that patients with diabetic kidney disease develop proteinuria before the loss of kidney function, maintaining the natural history of the disease, where it is evident that patients with long-standing diabetes initially have a high glomerular fiitration rate (known as glomerular hyperfiltration) and then develop proteinuria; however, the so-called non-proteinuric diabetic kidney disease does not always develop proteinuria. proteinuria before loss of renal function, since the pathophysiological processes involved in this variety of diabetic nephropathy are not yet fully known, delaying the diagnosis of this complication. The information on this topic is reviewed.
