CABRERA MORALES, Guiselle Carol  e  URQUIZO AYALA, Guillermo. EMPIRICAL ANTIMICROBIAL THERAPY IN PATIENTS WITH BACTERIAL CO-INFECTION ASSOCIATED WITH COVID 19. Rev. Méd. La Paz [online]. 2021, vol.27, n.2, pp.80-86. ISSN 1726-8958.

Reviews of bacterial and fungal co-infections in patients with coronavirus infection report an overall high percentage of co-infections in COVID-19 patients at any time during hospitalization. As patients who often need prolonged hospitalization and respiratory support, unnecessary antibiotics at the time of hospitalization may increase the individual risk of subsequent hospital-acquired pneumonia caused by resistant bacteria and other adverse events. Therefore, the appropriate use of antimicrobials is associated with greater success in the management of these patients. This paper reviews the available evidence about the appropriate antimicrobial treatment in patients with COVID 19, with bacterial co-infections.

Palavras-chave : COVID 19 coinfection; bacterial resistance; Empirical therapy in COVID 19.
