RUIZ DOMINGUEZ, Rosario Marlene; GIL SEOANE, Rocío and ROCA GODOY, Rilver. BACTERIAL ENDOCARDITIS AND PREGNANCY: PRESENTATION OF A CASE. Rev. Méd. La Paz [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.1, pp.44-47. ISSN 1726-8958.
Infective endocarditis during pregnancy is a rare event, but with a high rate of maternal and perinatal mortality. This poses a great challenge, both with regard to clinical management and to surgical treatment. The present case demonstrates the importance of multidisciplinary management. We present the case of a first pregnancy, with infective endocarditis due to Streptococcus pyogenes, whose outcome was the death of the product as a consequence of prematurity. The patient underwent valvular change due to severe mitral valve compromise; later I present a second gestation that concluded favorably.
Keywords : Infective endocarditis; pregnancy; antibiotic treatment; surgical treatment.
