Abstract

CASTRO CHACON, Luis; GOMEZ MOLINA, Vanessa A.  and  LANDIVAR CORDOVA, Ricardo. PREVALENCE OF POSTURAL ALTERATIONS OF THE SPINAL COLUMN, ASSOCIATED WITH THE LACK OF SPORT HABIT, IN YOUNG PEOPLE FROM 17 TO 22 YEARS OLD, 2017. Rev. Méd. La Paz [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.2, pp.18-23. ISSN 1726-8958.

The pathological modifications that affect the posture are becoming more frequent. Recent study in Latin America shows that alterations in the spine have experienced an increase in the infant population (1). Although there are few studies in this country, a publication in the journal Science, Technology and Innovation, indicates that 34% of young people suffer an alteration in the spine (2).The changes of posture are presented throughout life, affecting adults as well as young people that experience significant adaptations to balance the new proportions of the body in addition to acquiring postural vices. This combined with the lack of activity of the deep musculature of the rachis, will favor in the future the appearance of back problems. The present study was carried out with a sample of 102 young people between 17 and 22 years old, from the Petrolero Hospital and the careers medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy of a private university in La Paz city. Each individual of the study was evaluated in the sagittal and coronal planes with the plumb test, helped by a digital camera, as well as the statistical instrument. The present study determines that 38.23% of the total of young people developed some postural alteration. Denoting that the female gender has a higher incidence with 58.97%, unlike the male gender that reveals 41.02%. Also the 79.49 % of the total of young people with postural alterations lead a sedentary life and only 20.51% of them practice with some frequency some sport. Regarding the predominant postural alteration in our study, kyphosis prevailed with 51.28%, followed by kyphoscoliosis with 30.76%, scoliosis with 12.83% and others in 5.12%.
