AIM. To determine the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and associated factors among workers dependent area health of the municipal government of the city of El Alto in 2013 management. METHODS. Cross-sectional study, 296 officials of the municipal government dependent city of El Alto health. For medical examination medical history standardized by the NHIS and laboratory determinations were used. To identify the definition of metabolic syndrome IDF 2005 it was used. RESULTS. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 22%, 40 ± 11 years, 83% were female and 16% male. According to IDF criteria more frequent after that waist circumference itwas 100% criterion was 91% triglycerides and low HDL 89%. Among those with metabolic syndrome, 92% were sedentary, and 16% with pathologic erythrocytosis high. Administrative occupation is a factor associated with metabolic syndrome (p = 0.002, OR2.44 95% CI 1.30-4.68); and physical inactivity (p = 0.0052, OR = 2.44, 95% CI 1.37-12.23) and suggestive of pathologic erythrocytosis in height (p = 0.0002, OR = 5.02, 95% CI 1.77-14.37). CONCLUSIONS. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in health service providers of municipal government in the city of El Alto reached 22%, the factors associated with metabolic syndrome were administrative occupation, physical inactivity and the pathological eritrocitosis high.
