Abstract

Hospitals of 2º and 3º level of city of La Paz harbor personnel who need constant updating of their knowledge. This study was based on information about hospital libraries meeting the performance standards and for this we conducted a prospective study considering 18 hospitals in the city of La Paz of which only 14 had hospital libraries, we evaluated each library according to IBC standards. It was found that 71% had dedicated staff to run the library, in an average of 18% had budget for books, magazines and other, 57% had the minimum space required for the operation of the library, but 40% had periodicals, audiovisual search information and articles. It was observed that the hospital libraries were serving students at 18%, 15% residents and healths professionals 18%.
