Abstract

VALDIVIA GUITERAZ, Juan Héctor; CHANA, Thelma  and  DEL BARCO, Arturo. QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH FUNCTIONAL BOWEL DISORDERS. Rev. Méd. La Paz [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.1, pp.26-31. ISSN 1726-8958.

Objective.- To define if the Functional Bowel Disorders,(FBD) has a significant influence in the quality of life of the patients of University Social Security from La Paz. Methods and materials.- The study was carried out in paramedical and medical personnel of University Social Security, since December 2007 until February 2008. Were analyzed 80 patients, 40 cases of them showed some type of FBD with a value of 50%, and 40 negative cases 50%. There were analyzed only the positive cases; in all of them fulfilled inquiries with questionnaires according to Roma III consensus, and questionnaires SF 36. The data were analyzed according to statistical software SPSS - version 11, 5. Results.- The most frequent FBD found was the irritable bowel syndrome constipation variety; the female sex was the most sex affected with a value of 57%. The 32,5% ofthe patients that showed some variety ofFBD, besides showed diminishing of the quality of life, compared with 15,5% with some variety of FBD, that did not show a diminished quality of life (P< 0,005). Conclusions.- The 32,5% of patients that showed some variety of FDB showed besides diminishing of quality of life, being the most affected the emotional roll followed by the vitality, to which demonstrates the important association between the FBD and the quality of life of patients, with significant association with a P < 0.005.
