Stresses the importance of feeding the child for the development of optimal potential, stressing that the breast feeding is the ideal food for infants, in contrast to the high risk associated with artificial feeding. The breastfeeding ranks fírst among the preventive interventions to save lives in children under 5 years reaching 13%, this becomes an important pillar for the implementation of the Millennium goal 4th in the world, and Bolivia malnutrition zero program. Identifies the factors influencing the onset and maintenance of breastfeeding, as well as the criteria for infant feeding practices. Basic indicators related to the breastfeeding and the situation in Bolivia in the 2008 ENDSA are reviewed below.
