Abstract
RIVERO MORENO, Jaime Gonzalo and ROMAN CALVIMONTES, Carlos Enrique. Infestation of Jamillo (Ligaria cuneifolia) in Pepper tree (Schinus molle) in the Cochabamba Valley. RevActaNova. [online]. 2024, vol.11, n.4, pp.344-352. Epub Nov 30, 2024. ISSN 1683-0789. https://doi.org/10.35319/acta-nova.202424.
The pepper tree (Schinus molle L.) is a native tree widely distributed in the Cochabamba Valley, which is affected by a hemiparasite known as Jamillo (Ligaria cuneifolia R. et P.). The incidence and degree of infestation or severity that this represents has not yet been studied, which motivates the carrying out of the present investigation.
2.438 specimens were sampled in 20 sites distributed from the municipality of Sipe Sipe to the west, to the municipality of Sacaba to the east, at altitudes between 2.500 and 2.800 meters above sea level. Their geographical location (latitude and longitude), height range (small: 4 to 6 m; medium: 7 to 9 m; or tall: greater than 10 m) and range of infestation (healthy: no apparent infestation; mild: 1-30%; medium: 31-60%; strong: 61-90%; dead: due to infestation) were noted.
The results suggest that the infestation is considerable, since it is found in all the sites sampled and ranges between 23 to 87%, with an average of 61% of the individuals studied.
The infestation seems to be related to both the height of the specimens and the site. Spatially, there is evidence of a distribution of more favorable phytosanitary conditions for individuals located south of the study area and for lower sites, considering the height above sea level, especially when sites are located below 2.700 m a.s.l.
