One of the difficulties that horticultural producers have is the presence of pests and diseases, in the case of Brassicas, lepidoptera are considered key pests, such as the white butterfly (Pieris brassicae) that has an incidence of 30%. An alternative for its control is through the application of essential oils, since they have toxic effects. In this sense, the objective was to determine the insecticidal activity of essential oils of matico (Piper angustifolium), lemon verbena (Cymbopogon citratus) and wacataya (Tagetesgraveolens), with different volumes for the control of the white cabbage butterfly (Pieris brassicae) in larval stage under laboratory conditions. Initially, the essential oils of the three species were obtained by the condensation method and later, they were applied to 10 butterfly larvae (in petri dishes) at different volumes of 0,5; 1 and 2 ml respectively, previously dissolved in 1000 ml of distilled water. The variables evaluated were percentage of mortality, LD50% (median lethal dose) and LT50% (median lethal time). The results showed that the three oils are effective against cabbage butterfly larvae, being, the oils of matico (Piper angustifolium) and lemon verbena (Cymbopogon citratus) presented higher mortality (60%), in relation to the wacataya (Tagetes graveolens) that 55% mortality was obtained. In the same way, it was shown that matico (Piper angustifolium) and lemon verbena (Cymbopogon citratus) oils were more effective in controlling 50% DL and 50% TL with a low volume of 5,5 and 5,4 ml respectively with 5,5 and 5,4 hours.
