VILLAZON, M.F. y GABRIEL, T.F.. Numerical Modeling of Water Quality in the Rocha River in the Section Between the Siles Bridge and the Killman Bridge. RevActaNova. [online]. 2020, vol.9, n.4, pp.592-617. ISSN 1683-0789.
The Rio Rocha crosses the metropolitan area of Cochabamba from east to west, from the municipality of Sacaba to that of Sipe Sipe, intertwining six of the seven municipalities of the metropolitan area. Along this route, its waters receive a series of pollutants, from sewage, domestic and industrial liquid waste, textures, slaughterhouses, especially tanneries, pesticide residues, herbicides and fertilizers, the main source of contamination is sewers, whose waters are discharged directly without treatment. Information on water quality samples from the 4-month Rocha River was collected between Jun-2006 and Sep-2006; of 4 sampling points that are the Siles bridge, Recoleta bridge, Cobija bridge and Killman bridge. Meteorological data was also collected from the Sarco station, which is close to the river and provided by SENAMHI, the flows introduced in the model at permanent flow were from the information obtained of the river sampling points. Finally, a simulation of the water quality of the Rocha river was carried out in the HEC-RAS model, the parameters considered were Temperature, OD, BOD, NO2 and NO3, all of them monthly. A sensitivity analysis was applied to be able to calibrate the parameters required by the model, after calibrating the model, consistent results were obtained from the parameters studied along the river.
