Abstract
MERCADO GUZMAN, Álvaro Rodolfo; COSSIO GRAGEDA, Claudia Ximena and COPA MITMA, Mariela. Efficiency linked to the operation and maintenance of small domestic wastewater treatment plants in Cochabamba, Bolivia. RevActaNova. [online]. 2020, vol.9, n.4, pp.524-542. ISSN 1683-0789.
Management of small wastewater treatment plants in Bolivia (2000 - 10000 inhab.) Is deficient, which drives wastewater treatment plants to not fulfill their goal of reducing pollution in receiving water bodies, contributing to deterioration of water quality. The goal of the present study is to find a link between efficiency of small wastewater treatment plants and activities of operation and maintenance. Diagnostics of five , one in urban area and four in rural areas, wastewater treatment plants were performed considering: types of treatment technologies, efficiency regarding water quality (total suspended solids, Biological Oxygen Demand, Chemical Oxygen Demand and Thermotolerant Coliforms.), and type of Operation and Maintenance. Methodology included a period between 2015 and 2018 and activities of: sanitary surveys at wastewater treatment plants, sampling campaigns and interviews with boards, operators and users. Main results presented a link between rank of operation and maintenance and efficiency in BOD and COD.
