Abstract

NAVARRO SANCHEZ, Gonzalo. Zonificación ecológica: Unidades Ambientales Integradas (UAIs) como herramienta base de diagnóstico y gestión. RevActaNova. [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.3, pp.417-428. ISSN 1683-0789.

Research and management of the ecosystems is supported by a strong characterization and initial diagnosis stage that assents and focuses the projects, evaluations, measures or constructions on the concrete environmental reality. The predominant approach so far in Bolivia has been to consider this basic stage of environmental management as a collection of data or lists that never come to be integrated or understood as a system of interacting and interdependent elements. We consider that the underlying problem is the lack of ecological analysis units designed in such a way that their conceptual and operative construction comprehensibly facilitates the natural integration of the fundamental components of the environment that explain the structure, functioning and geographical differentiation of the ecosystems. In this work, from a brief conceptual review of the main antecedents and current trends on this subject, an easy scheme or protocol is proposed for the identification, construction and delimitation of integrated environmental units (IEUs), including useful sources and tools to carry out this process. The concept and use of these units is multiscalar in nature according to their specific application, focusing as an integration of the fundamental variables that explain the variability and functioning of ecosystems: bioclimate, geoforms, lithology, soils, vegetation and human uses coverage. The result are units that allow to the consistent zoning of geographic space into homogeneous and extrapolable entities, that behave in analogous way to the environment diagnosis and management.

Keywords : environmental unit; analysis; diagnosis; ecological management.
