Abstract

RAMIREZ SAHONERO, Ibelice del Pilar. Determination of the capacity of the alpaca fiber as a precautionary measure to reduce the harmful effects of Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation. RevActaNova. [online]. 2017, vol.8, n.1, pp.31-49. ISSN 1683-0789.

This article presents the discovery of the ability of the alpaca fiber to attenuate the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation. An anechoic chamber was designed and built, within which were installed: a router as wave emitter, a density power meter and between them, different samples of alpaca fiber. The power density measurements were performed in presence and absence of the sample. It was established that the attenuation produced by alpaca fiber is directly proportional to the sample thickness. There was an attenuation of 1, 19, 30 and up to 48 % of the initial radiation. The results of this study suggest that alpaca fiber, product of traditional use and easily accessible in the region, could be used as a precautionary measure to reduce the possible harmful effects of Wi-Fi electromagnetic radiation on human health.

Keywords : Wi-Fi; alpaca fiber; attenuation; electromagnetic waves; 2.4 GHz; precautionary measure.
