Abstract

MORALES, Eduardo A.  and  RIVERA, Sinziana F.. Rare or little known macrophytes from Alalay Pond, Cochabamba, Bolivia. RevActaNova. [online]. 2013, vol.6, n.1-2, pp.36-52. ISSN 1683-0789.

The results of two sampling campaigns for macrophytes performed in 2013 are discussed and data for 4 plants: Enteromorpha sp., Hydrocotyle ranunculoides L.f., Rhizoclonium sp. y Wolffia columbiana H. Karst. are presented. These plants are ill-known or have never been reported from this highly eutrophic urban aquatic system. The discussion focuses only on scientific literature for Alalay, that is, peer-reviewed publications. Institutional reports are discarded since they contain doubtful records. For each plant, a general description, origin, distribution and ecology data are included, together with taxonomic notes that could be helpful in future identifications. The literature review indicates that little is known about these organisms in Alalay, despite the fact that they are one of the main groups to be managed during restoration practices in the pond. A taxonomic list was put together for which some weaknesses are annotated, weaknesses that should be solved by means of detailed phenological and ecological studies. These data would allow the management of populations and communities. It is evidenced that any future study should generate a specimen reference collection, which could be used to determine spatial and temporal changes in populations.

Keywords : Algae; aquatic plants; eutrophic pond; South America.
