Agroforestry systems are hardly adopted by farmers although the advance technological and the environmental and economic benefits. My objective was to explicate how the perceptions about tree and shrubs of bolivian farmers from North of Independencia are important for create and adapt agroforestry systems. I carry-out a qualitative analysis using participative observation with informal conversations, unstructured interviews and review of reports of workshops with narratives of farmers and non-participatory observation. Data analysis was carried-out with thematic content method. I found that the farmers may to find feelings, myths, goods and ecosystem and cultural services of the trees and shrubs, which have advantage and disadvantages for their perceptions. I propose a conceptual model to explain how those perceptions influence the practices and the spacial and temporal configuration of agroforestry systems (SAC), defining species, forms, times and places for the trees and shurbs. I show six farmer agroforestry models adapted to specific context and based on the SAC I recommend some innovations to improve the preservation of the soil, the wildlife and flora local. If more area de tree and shrubs is required in the communities, I recommend that farmer perceptions and the SAC should be recognized previously.
