RESEARCH QUESTION What is the frequency of newborns (NB) with low birth weight (LBW) in patients with gestational hypertension (GH), in the section of Gynaecology and Obstetrics in the Hospital Municipal Boliviano Holandés between September 2005 and September 2006? General aim To establish the percentage of NB with LBW in patients with GH in the section of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Hospital Municipal Boliviano Holandés by a 13-months survey. SPECIFIC AIMS. To assess the weight of NB from mothers with gestational hypertension. To identify the gestational age of patients with gestational hypertension To determine the relation of the types of gestational hypertension and NB with LBW. To identify the presence of death in patients with gestational hypertension. MATERIAL AND METHODS The present paper is a descriptive study in which 210 clinical histories were reviewed of patients with gestational hypertension admitted to the section of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Hospital Municipal Boliviano Holandés in the city of El Alto, between September 2005 and September 2006. RESULTS Of the 210 clinical histories that were reviewed in the section of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the Hospital Municipal Boliviano Holandés in the afore mentioned period, we found a percentage of 27.1% of NB with LBW which corresponds to 57 cases. In addition, we found 23% of NB with LBW in relation to the gestational age , and the relation of the NB with LBW and the different types of gestational hypertension are similar to those referred to in the literature.
