Research question ¿Which of the methods used is the most sensitive and specific for the Sodium and Potassium detemination in human serum? Objetive To determine the Sensibility and Specificity of the methods : Emission to the Flame Photometry, Visible Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy and Ion Electrode Selective for the analysis of Sodium and Potassium concentration in human serum. Design Diagnostic Test Place Laboratories of Bolivian Japanese Gastroenterológyc Institute, Analysis for Instrumentation of the Pharmaceuticals and Biochemical Faculty, Chemical Laboratory FCPN and Juan XXIII Hospital. Population 112 samples of patient of both sexes, healthy and sick. Methods It was determined Sodium and Potassium concentration in human serum by Emission to the Flame Photometry, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy of, Ion Selective Electrode and with Teco Diagnostic kit for VIS Photometry . We tested the exactness in all the procedures. It was calculated measures of central tendency, Sensibility, Specificity, positive and negative predictive values and correlation test. Results For the values inside of the normal range, in the Na analysis, the sensibility of the Photometry VIS is 81%, Atomic Absorption 45 %, Ion Electrode Selective 93%, the specificity 68 %, 72% and 84% respectively. For the K analysis, the sensibility of the Photometry VIS is 94%, Atomic Absorption 75%, Ion Electrode Selective 80%, the specificity 63%, 67% and 86 % respectively. Conclusions The Ion Selective Electrode method presents the highest sensibility, specificity and correlation for the sodium and potassium determination.
